The USS Missouri was commissioned in 1944 and was donated to Pearl Harbor upon retirement in 1992. Hewitt became Admiral of all naval forces in the European Theater at the end of World War II. He served on the USS Missouri in 1946. The USS Missouri's special place in history is the signing in Tokyo Harbor of the document thet ended the war with Japan on September 2, 1945.
